DSL can operate in different frequency, so DSL can be used with common telephone line where both of the signals can be separated correctly. When both signal are separated, your telephone line will divided two parts.

If this both signal are not separated correctly, telephone and also other hardware like modem and fax machine can interfere with the DSL line.
Splitter or Filter
To separates DSL and telephone signal, one tool called splitter will be used. Its will be installed on NID in telephone tools.
